San Luis Obispo County real estate prices are higher than the national average, which can pose a financial barrier for some. It's crucial to carefully evaluate your budget and explore different housing options to find the right fit for your needs.

2. Limited Job Market

While Cal Poly provides a strong economic foundation, the job market in San Luis Obispo County can be limited compared to larger metropolitan areas. If you're not in academia or a related field, you may need to explore entrepreneurial ventures or consider remote work opportunities.

3. High Rental Costs

Even if you're not ready to buy a house, the cost of living in San Luis Obispo County can be a challenge. While slightly lower than the California average, rental costs are still higher than the national average, which can put a strain on your budget.

San Luis Obispo County is a predominantly rural area with a lower population density than many other parts of California. "The entertainment options definitely don't compare to other big cities," Owen acknowledges. "Our town, San Luis Obispo, SLO, we call it the slow life. And that's what we all know and love."

Wildfires are a reality in California, and San Luis Obispo County is no exception. "Some parts of our county are designated high wildfire risk," Owen warns. "And so that is a concern for a lot of people right now."
